1 December 2014 sees changes to penalties for parking in disabled car parking spaces

The Australian Disability Parking Scheme is a nation-wide scheme which aims to provide critical parking for citizens with mobility disability. As of 1 December 2014, anyone parking in a disability parking space and not displaying an appropriate disability parking permit will be fined $519.00 with an additional loss of demerit points. The loss of demerit points will contribute towards licence suspension just as any other demerit infringement would.

Mr Duncan Gay, Minister for Roads and Freight said “The demerit point will hopefully help people use their moral compass and think twice before choosing to park their vehicles illegally in a disabled car park”.
